Truman is a beautiful Labrador whose love for his humans is immeasurable. He would immediately look for them the moment he would open his eyes in the morning. Being around them brings him so much comfort, and he sees to it that they know how happy they make him.
Unfortunately, all this love wasn’t being reciprocated. In fact, it even reached a point where Truman’s owners tricked him into riding with them to a church in Iowa and abandoned him there.
A dog’s loyalty
By the time church-goers caught sight of the Labrador, his owners were already nowhere to be found. The poor thing was sitting outside the church with a bag of food and rawhide near him. Some of them approached him to talk to him and give him gentle pats on the head.
When Jessica Ellers, a local resident, saw Truman, she knew that he had no idea that his previous owners abandoned him. She tried to get him to ride her car so she could bring hop to Agape Fosters, an Iowa-based pet rescue group. He would decline her invitation every single time.
Home for Truman
Ellers’s perseverance was rewarded when Truman finally hopped in the car with her. Volunteers at Agape Fosters were quick to run tests on him to see if anything needed to be addressed immediately. They also posted his photos online to help him find his forever home.
His story reached Melissa Karsten, who reached out to Agape Fosters and expressed interest in adopting him. After the screening process, the volunteers agreed that she and Truman are a perfect fit. They also got the confirmation they needed when they saw the Labrador’s reaction the first time he met Karsten.
Truman was indeed fortunate to have found a loving fur mom like Karsten. She gave memories worth treasuring before crossing the rainbow bridge in 2018.
