pooper scooper week
International Pooper Scooper Week established in 2008 by the Association of Professional Animal Waste Specialists (aPaws). Founded in 2002 by professional pooper scoopers, aPaws believes you should not need to worry about a mess on your shoe or between your toes.
Every year, the first week of April is International Pooper Scooper Week dedicated to educate pet owners of a smelly problem and encourage scooping. The annual aPaws convention includes a “turd-herding” contest. Really! Where is this convention!
According to aPaws, pooches are creating enough waste to pile it 12 inches deep over 900 football fields. Approximately 71 million dogs create 4.4 billion pounds of poop annually in the United States. Humans need to do their doody after pup doodies. Professionals do exist to perform the removal.
Why Not Leave It
Don’t find picking up poop exciting? Poop carries viruses, parasites, and bacteria exposing other pets. Yellowing grass and over-fertilization blemishes occur across your lawn. Not to mention the “Watch your step, land mine” effect. Did someone swear responsibility for the doody task?
What To Do With Doody
Be sure you are following disposal options. In some places, it’s not allowed to dispose of dog excrement with yard waste. Here are some options:
- Without the plastic bag, flush down the toilet. Reuse bags from the grocery.
- Compost or dig a hole for disposal on your property if possible. Feces will break down, enzymes can expedite the composting process.
- Throwing it in the garbage, wrapped in a plastic bag.
- In some places, removal companies will come to your home, even scoop the poop for you.
Not an option: Wash your hands.
Pet Safety
Keeping everyone safe is your responsibility. When needed scoop the poop and dispose of properly. Everyone will appreciate it greatly including you, your pooch, and all of your two and four-footed neighbors.
Please Observe Pooper Scooper Week Daily!
