Since a man named Kerry got the German wirehaired pointer named Banjo, the dog’s exceptional sense of smell never ceased to amaze him. Banjo enjoyed sniffing out wildlife whenever they went skiing in their area in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and he could often sniff out creatures up to 200 meters away!
Kerry had always believed that Banjo’s keen senses would come in handy one day. But he had no idea that the dog would later use his strong sense of smell to save another dog.
One day in mid-November, the fur dad and his dog were cross-country skiing near their home when Banjo suddenly detected a familiar scent. He quickly dashed towards the bushes and began wagging his tail, an indication that he had discovered an animal.
Kerry initially believed it would be another porcupine, rabbit, or bird, and he was already attempting to entice Banjo out of the bushes. When he came closer to check what the dog had found, he was surprised to see that it was a golden retriever!
The beautiful dog hid beneath a burrow he constructed to protect himself from the snow. He appeared to be rather frightened and cold, but he refused to let Kerry near him, so the concerned man chose to contact animal control instead. This dog definitely needed help and that’s why he decided to let the professionals handle it.
This is when he discovered that Louie, the golden retriever that Benjo found, had gone missing for four days already. On that same day that Banjo found Louie, his fur parents were also out with a search team and were notified quickly about their pet.
The reunion was a tearjerker, and Kerry couldn’t be any prouder of what Banjo had accomplished. Louie also was very happy to be back with his fur parents.
