The story of Mack might sound as common as any other dog-loves-cat story. On the surface, this might be true, but given what Mack, the blue Pit/Lab mix, has been through his life this story is much more unique than what the eye can see.
Mack in his early life was a maltreated pup. Together with his brother, they were tied to a tree, barred of food and water and most especially, love. Having no interest in raising the dogs, their owner took multiple attempts to rehome the brothers but as loyal as dogs can be, they kept returning. The shelter finally took the dogs in for foster care.
Mack’s brother was adopted after a while, while Mack on the other hand was tagged as aggressive and was on the line to be put down. His aggressive nature is due to the horrible upbringing, but mostly because of fear. This fear is what Chris, a worker in the shelter, came to notice.
For Chris, the mutt’s fear triggers the aggression and he offered his services to work on Mack, putting the plans of euthanizing the dog on hold. It would be a painstaking process, but Chris was up to the task.
Chris taught Mack to become social with other dogs as well as trusting humans again. In four months, Mack has turned 180 and became a loving and trusting dog.
Analisa Trstensky has been following the local shelter in her hometown in Tallahassee, Florida where Mack’s story was featured. Reading the poor mutt’s early life, she wanted to know how he has turned around from being an aggressive dog to the loving, friendly pooch that he now is.
Analisa is no stranger to rescues, growing up, her parents would rescue animals. Having a horse farm, their barn is used by stray cats for shelter. They are currently caring for 3 pot-bellied pigs, all of which are rescues as well. Living with her cat Bowser, Analisa was not looking for a dog, but the picture of Mack caught her eye.
Analisa decided to email Mack’s foster mom and exchanged emails. Analisa was a bit hesitant at first knowing nothing about Pits but their reputation, but she still decided to see Mack.
Mack played hard to get, sitting awkwardly a few feet away but all the while wagging his tail. Analisa fell in love with Mack and brought him home.
Bowser took off with Mack in an instant. Within a day of meeting each other, they have claimed each other as siblings. The following day Analisa woke up to the pair snuggled together on top of her in bed.
Analisa would oftentimes bring home kittens to foster and no one seems to be more interested in helping her do that than Mack. These days, Bowser and Mack help their mom raising cat litters whenever possible, proof that Pit Bulls are sweet and kind-hearted just like any other breed.
