It’s difficult to imagine the pain and worry that dog owners go through when they lose their dogs. Our pets are surely part of our family, and missing them causes a big void in our lives. This is why dog owners go to extremes to find their precious pups. – even if it takes years to get them back.
Sadly, a good percentage of lost dogs fail to return to their homes. And most that do go back is thanks to their microchip. Just like this senior dog who went missing for a decade.
Church steps
Charlie was two years old when he was stolen from their home in Mobile, Alabama. His owner, Tracey Dove, did an extensive search for him. Unfortunately, no one could give any clues as to where he was. For the next ten years, Tracey hoped that her pet would come back to her one day.
That day came when vets scanned her for a microchip and found one.
Three days before his visit to an animal clinic, Charlie was found lying on church steps in Brewton, Alabama, almost a hundred miles away from his home. The dog was very weak and hungry. Rescuers then brought him to a shelter.
He was taken to a vet because he had a visible tumor growing out of his chest.
The best days of his life
Once the clinic staff got the information from his microchip, they immediately called Charlie’s owner. Tracey was shocked at first, and couldn’t believe that they found her dog after all those years. After getting over her disbelief, she immediately made plans to retrieve her pet.
Now back home, Tracey took Charlie to several doctors to find out the best way to treat his condition. The relieved dog owner vows to give the senior pooch all the love and attention she could give so that he could have the best days of his life. No matter how much more time he has left.
