A German Shepherd named Tony was once a homeless dog. Soon, animal control picked him up and transferred him to the care of an animal rescue center. He found a home within a few weeks but he was returned to the shelter shortly after.
Soon, Lee Asher, the founder of the animal sanctuary The Asher House, learned about Tony. He dropped by at the shelter to meet the dog and he couldn’t fathom how a GSD like Tony ended up being so big. He decided right off the bat to help the pup lose weight.
Lee brought Tony home and introduced the newcomer to his pack. All of his 8 dogs were more than welcoming but Tony was the one who was aloof. He tried to make himself invisible but there wasn’t a space that was big enough to conceal him.
Tony was insecure and he needed someone who believed in him. Luckily for him, Lee came his way. From the moment they met, his rescuer believed in him so he believed in himself, too.
The pack also played a huge part in Tony’s weight loss journey. They played a lot outside and he wanted to join in on the fun so he worked so hard to be on the move and persevered to catch up on them. It was because of them that he remained active.
From 150 pounds, Tony quickly lost a third of his weight. He did an amazing job and he reached his goal in time for an adventure. because two months after his rescue, he went to the beach for the first time and he definitely had so much fun.
Tony was so happy Lee came and changed his life. He was even more thrilled that all 8 dogs at the sanctuary liked him and treated him no differently. He instantly became a part of their family.
Now at a healthy weight, Tony is up for anything. He loves playing with his dog siblings outside and he sure does have fun every time they go on a trip.
