Owner of Doggie School Bus Inc., Arat Montoya, started his daycare service for dogs in West Linn City, Oregon, in 2016. He thought of this idea when he and his wife found out they’re having a baby and knew he has to do something to support them.
Before opening the service, he used to work at the Dog Club of West Linn before it went out of business. He would board and sit some of his client’s pets afterward for the majority of his time.
Montoya started by transforming his Gold Scion XB car into the Doggie School Bus. He put stripes and letters to make it look like a real school bus. Once it was ready, he was able to get 16 customers in two weeks. They were brought to their doggie school at a 5-acre area every 7:00 am and brings them back home at 2:00 pm.
Having fun with the dogs is the best part about his job. Commanding them was difficult at first, but he managed to have them follow his instructions. He’s made an intimate relationship with each of them that he’s able to recognize their barks. His passion for giving them a joyful day was enough to make him happy.
Things look bright for Montoya as the popularity of his daycare went up. He gained over 300 clients in the past three years and reached 32,000 followers on their Facebook page with positive review ratings.
The number of dogs their owners tasked him to take care of was so much that he bought a new, larger vehicle to accommodate the situation. On an average day, he can dogsit around 20 of them and 30 above if either they’re disciplined or on a busy day.
It didn’t matter for Montoya. Being with the dogs and keeping them company is the best thing in his life. Every time he goes to pick up the dogs, they get very excited. And all of that made him the happiest dog sitter in the world.
