A nine-year-old Shih Tzu named Chloe may have had her hind paws amputated, but that won’t stop her from living a good life. She found the perfect family after meeting a human who relates to her condition.
Chloe, the double-amputee
Chloe was one of the two dogs rescued by the San Diego Humane Society in May 2021. Chloe, and the other dog, Roxy, had their back paws bound tightly to the point that it injured them.
Chloe and Roxy were rushed to the vets, but it was too late to save their paws. The best recourse was to amputate. Fortunately, both dogs were fitted for prosthetics after their surgeries.
After some physical therapy plus the use of prosthetics, Chloe was back on her feet quickly. All that she needs now is a family who will love her for all that she is. Meanwhile, Roxy has other medical conditions that need to be addressed, but the vets and rescuers are optimistic that she’ll soon be ready for adoption as well.
Chloe gets adopted
Fortunately, Chloe was matched with the perfect foster family. Her foster dad is Chappie Hunter, a detective at San Diego Police Department. Chappie lost one of his legs due to a road accident in 2013, and he’s been wearing prosthetics for years. Seeing that Chloe and Chappie have something in common, it was inevitable for the two to develop a bond.
According to Arlene, Chappie’s wife, Chloe reminded him strongly of her husband after the accident. Chloe was up and about on the second day she had her prosthetics on. It was the same with Chappie, who started working on the garage right after being discharged from the hospital.
Chloe settled in with her foster family instantly. She gets lots of love from her humans. She’s also enjoying the company of Lincoln, the family dog who has become her instant friend and playmate.
The Hunters could see that Chloe has the same fighting spirit as Chappie, so they knew right then and there they could not afford to lose her. So Chloe became a foster fail and officially joined the Hunter household after a couple of weeks. She’s bound to live her best life now that she’s found the best family for her.
