On Saturday, the fire crew from the St. Johns County Fire Rescue (SJCFR) spent their morning rescuing a visually impaired and deaf dog. The fire crew received reinforcement from the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office (SJCSO).
In a Facebook post, the two separate groups released a statement regarding the incident. They said that a dog got stuck in a drainage pipe, and seemed anxious about the situation. The post likewise explained why the dog got trapped there, saying the dog left the house for no apparent reason.
After receiving a call from the distressed owners, the fire crews and volunteers immediately went to work. According to the fire crews, they did not know where the dog was until someone saw him trapped inside the drainage pipe.
Three groups, namely Engine 14, USAR 4, and Squad 4, collaborated in rescuing the poor dog. It was a challenging rescue given the dog’s condition of being visually impaired and deaf. Although it took the fire crews a while to devise the best way to rescue the dog, they pulled through.
After two hours of the continuous rescue operation, the fire crews were able to bring back the dog above the grounds. When the rescue operations became successful, the fire department released photos of the same.
In the photos taken, it could be seen that the dog was tucked deep inside the narrow pipe. Based on the fire crews’ accounts, they tried calling the dog’s attention, but since he was deaf, this became a problem. Nevertheless, they pushed through with the rescue since they know they can handle such delicate cases.
According to the fire crews, the dog looked scared and tired, so they assured him that everything would be alright. After the rescue operation, the dog got reunited with his family. His family, on the other hand, thanked the fire crews for their heroic actions.
