Being a dog parent is not only providing the basic needs of your dog. It is also thinking about what is best for the dog in the long run. For families who faced difficulties with their personal lives, the right decision is to let go of their dogs.
Ryan Hamilton, a resident of Tampa Bay in Florida, lost his job and became homeless. At that time, the man is home to a loving dog named Dakota. Ryan faced the dilemma of surrendering Dakota to a local shelter or keeping him.
It was quite a heartbreaking decision to make, but Ryan had no other choice but to choose what is best for his beloved dog. Dakota arrived at the Tampa Bay Humane Society as Ryan decided this is the best course of action for his dog.
Before Ryan surrendered the dog, the man ensured that the shelter is a no-kill shelter. Ryan decided to let go of Dakota because he knew he has no means to provide for the dog’s needs.
Ryan’s story is not uncommon for many Americans, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Everyone faced personal struggles that required hard decisions to make. Ryan lost his job because of the continuous onslaught of the deadly disease in America.
However, the man was lucky enough to land a new job after weeks of searching and applying for one. Ryan slowly went back on his feet and rented a new home. The next thing the man did was to visit the shelter where Dakota was. He had high hopes that his beloved dog was still there.
Fortunately, when Ryan returned to the shelter, he learned that Dakota was still there. With this, the man immediately processed the dog’s documents and brought him home with him. It might be fate, but Ryan is thankful that he received a second chance to take good care of Dakota.
