When Oscar was found wandering the streets of New York, he was dragging his lower body behind him. People really felt sorry for the poor pooch and they took him to the local shelter. His rescuers thought that he was abandoned by his owners because of his condition.
But sadly, because of his handicap, Oscar was placed on the euthanasia list. The authorities figured out that no one would want to adopt the dog because he has special needs. Their experience told them that the dog would be better off if he was put to sleep.
Fortunately for the dog, some kind souls from a volunteer-based rescue group called NY Pet-i-Car found him and gave Oscar a new lease in life.
Set of wheels
Oscar was placed in foster care and once again felt the warmth and love of being a part of a family. The dog was taken to various vets, and they all said that there was no cure for his condition. But despite his handicap, the dog was full of life.
The rescue group saw that he was a good candidate for a wheelchair, so they exhausted all their efforts to find money to get Oscar a customized set of wheels.
The dog loved his newfound mobility and practiced regularly using the chair. And soon, it was like he was born with it. Oscar was running everywhere. The dog became even happier because of this.
Celebrity
Soon, Oscar was adopted by a loving family. They found his antics very amusing and they started posting pictures and videos of their dog. A lot of people were taken by his charm, and the posts got shared around.
Oscar’s followers started growing, and he became a New York celebrity. People would recognize him when they see him walking or joining events.
And the best thing is he has been using his popularity to inspire people to adopt handicapped dogs. This way, they don’t have to needlessly die in shelters.
