Somewhere right in the outskirts of a town in Ukraine, a Good Samaritan spotted a little white dog in the middle of a field. There were no residential houses or any buildings nearby so he knew right away that something wasn’t right. But what alarmed him more was the fact that the momma dog carried a puppy in her mouth and that she was clearly in a state of panic.
The man immediately grabbed his phone and contacted people and organizations he believed would be able to help. Unfortunately, none of the shelters he called had the space for an additional dog, let alone two. He continued to search for help and eventually, he contacted Olena, the head rescuer of Love Furry Friends Animal Rescue.
Without a precise address to provide, the man gave Olena a landmark instead. He said to search for electric pole 194. That’s where he last saw the dog and that’s where she’d probably find it.
When Olena made it to the scene and saw how huge the field was, she thought it would take hours before she finds the dog. Surprisingly, the pup was there, laying next to the pole. But once the rescuer was close enough, she realized the puppy was nowhere to be found.
Olena fed the momma dog in an attempt to gain its trust, and it was pretty easy to befriend it. However, she quickly saw the anguish and grief in the momma dog’s eyes and thought something might have happened to its baby. And so, she began to search for the puppy and saw it laying on the grass a few meters away from them.
It was too late to save the puppy. It probably died because of too much heat. It was also possible that it was already dead when it was born. So to try and lessen the momma’s grief over the loss, the rescuer picked it up and buried it on the ground.
From the field, the rescuer drove the dog straight to the animal center. It was dehydrated and she knew there was no time to waste or it would be too late for the momma dog, too. Thankfully, all the pup needed was rest and it felt better within a couple of days.
Olena never knew if the dog she named Knopa was abandoned on the field with its puppy or if it gave birth after it was dumped. After all, it no longer mattered. What’s important was that she was able to save at least one life that day.
