People love seeing the sweet faces of a puppy litter. However, it is a sad reality that numerous rescue puppies never get the chance to know what love is.
Several kill shelters engage in euthanasia practice where innocent pregnant dogs become victims. The reason why these kill shelters exist is due to the lack of funding from the state.
Fortunately, there are dog lovers who face this problem head-on. Aron Jones is one of these people as she realized that she needed to help poor pregnant dogs. After realizing that she could use her influence, Aron founded Moms and Mutts, where she caters to pregnant and nursing dogs.
Aron’s advocacy for pregnant dogs began when she heard that too many innocent pregnant dogs become a casualty of euthanasia. She asked several kill shelters why this practice still exists up until today. Aron received an answer, saying pregnant dogs are aggressive and could pose harm to other people.
But after receiving this answer, Aron could still not get the logic of why pregnant dogs need to be euthanized. For the dog lover, pregnant dogs tend to be aggressive because they are protecting their puppies. Aron believes that this is a normal reaction on the part of the pregnant dog.
Aron opened the Moms and Mutts, where she takes in pregnant dogs who are included in the euthanasia list. Ever since starting the initiative, the animal shelter has already aided a total of 8,000 dogs.
According to Aron, most of the dogs they rescue come from Oklahoma, Arizona, Texas, and New Mexico as these states are notorious for having kill shelters. Fortunately, several dog lovers back Aron with this initiative and often lend a hand. Volunteers help the founder look for potential homes for the dogs they rescue.
But more than rescuing the dogs, Aron likewise proposed a solution to the problem of dogs getting pregnant. After the dogs give birth, Aron would then schedule them for spaying. For Aron, this is the best way to control the dog population.
