Residents of a small village in Greece rallied when they spotted a stray dog that collapsed right beside the garbage bin. They knew they had to help but they had no clue what has to be done.
Eventually, the neighbors took a picture of the dog and shared it on social media. They hoped that the right individual would see it and come to help. Soon, an individual who knew Ermionni Giannakou, a rescuer from Karditsa, forwarded the image to her and asked her if she could help.
Ermionni, the founder and lead rescuer of DAR Animal Rescue, did not hesitate to help. She instantly said yes and wasted no time to respond. Once she had the details of the dog’s whereabouts, she hopped into her car and drove fast to the rescue site.
It took seven hours before the rescuer learned about the dog and she worried something worse already happened, especially when she didn’t find the animal when she arrived on site. She wasn’t sure but she thought someone may have rescued him already. Or perhaps, he had enough strength to get to a safer place. Who knew what could have happened during that time?
Despite the possibility that she may never find the dog at all, the rescuer continued to work and asked around. Soon, she spoke with a kind lady who told her that the dog was in a secure area. Apparently, as the rain poured down, she took him to an old warehouse to keep him from soaking in the rain.
After thanking the lady for her kindness, Ermionni scooped up the dog she later on named Casper and loaded him into her car. She took him straight to the emergency animal clinic and hoped it wasn’t too late for him.
Casper underwent an extensive medical examination. He was also tested for the deadly Parvovirus and Canine Distemper. The tests came back negative, and there was only one reason why he was so sick and weak. He starved for a very long time.
Thankfully, it really didn’t take very long for him to gain back his strength. When he got his medical clearance, Casper left and joined his foster home, where he continued to receive care. Eventually, he recovered and started a new beginning.
